Little Steps, Big Milestones

This last weekend we started...POTTY TRAINING. Suffice it to say, I'm already ready to be done. I tried to prepare myself for the great fun we would have taking this big step with Molly (dully note the sarcasm, please), but I don't think anything can quite prepare you to say "pee-pee" and "potty" and "panties" and "poop" 135 times every day. Over-all, though, Molly has done a terrific job, and today was her first day completely accident free!

On Saturday we took a family trip to Wal-Mart to get Molly some motivational treats and new underwear. While we were there, we ran into my good friend Tracy, who has the little girl Amy that is really close to Molly's age. We had already picked out some fun princess underwear, but Tracy mentioned to Molly that Amy loves to wear Elmo undies, so we of course had to go back and exchange the princesses for Elmo. Such a silly girl. But Molly has been quite proud of her new big girl status.

The last few days we've used mostly her little potty to help her get used to getting to the potty on time when the need arises, but today we started helping her use the "big" potty. This afternoon I had ushered her in to the bathroom to try and go, then left to get something before helping her up, and then suddenly I heard her going all by herself. That was definitely a happy moment for a proud Momma.

It's a little awkward getting your picture taken while you're sitting on a potty, so of course Molly had to be silly to lighten the mood a little!

Super Molly

At "school" today, Molly and her friends talked about being helpers, and the comparison was made how Superheroes are helpers. They all made cute little masks that they could wear to be superheroes, and therefore, super helpers. Molly has decided to make it a permanent fixture to her face...she will not take it off. I have even tried to warn her that she can't wear it to bed tonight (because she insisted on wearing it during her nap) and she wasn't happy about that prospect. We'll see how long this lasts...but for now, just refer to her as SUPER MOLLY! (Thanks, Tracy!)

ABCs and School

Molly loves letters. And numbers. And colors. And shapes. Basically, she just loves to learn about new things, and picks everything up so quick. She know all of her letters both upper and lower case, more than half of the sounds, and we've started working on short words like BUS and CAT and HOP. She's been working on the Alphabet song recently, and it's pretty cute when we get her to sing it to us. With all songs, she sings key words, so the alphabet song is just random letters, but at least they are in order! We'll work on filling in the gaps as we go along. (She's pretty soft, so you might have to turn it up to hear her well.)

Today was Molly's first day of "school". We've gotten a little group of kids close to Molly's age together for a "joy" school type thing. We're taking the laid back approach since they are all 2 or just turned 3 years old, but we wanted a little structure to help them learn routines. We've decided to focus on weather, a letter and color each week, a simple theme, and then have some crafts and play time. Molly was so excited to start going to school today, and thrilled that she could wear her backpack. I was sad I had to miss it (I was at work), but David was there. The pictures aren't the greatest, but they get the point across.
