Crazy Storm

In the middle of the night last night, most of Iowa had a crazy wind/rain storm roll through.  I woke up around 2:30 last night to lightening that was flashing so brightly and fast, one guy at church today described it as being lightening you could read a book by.  That's pretty accurate.  When I looked out the window to check the storm, the wind was blowing so hard and the rain coming down so fast, everything was just a blur, I couldn't really see anything.  Our power went out a few times, though we were lucky that it came back on...others in our neighborhood and throughout the state are still without power.  And David pretty much slept through the whole thing!

On our drive to church this morning, we couldn't believe all the debris of branches and leaves in roads and yards.  We even saw a few trees that had been torn out by their roots.  On our way home, we saw tons of people working on clean-up, along with trucks driving away with piles of branches in their beds.  We went for a little drive after lunch to check out some of the damage.  Here are just a few pictures I took of some trees right in our neighborhood...and I'm sure this is a similar seen all around the state.
This is right in our parking lot.
Same tree just other direction...when we left for church it was sitting on the white car.

If you look closely, you can see the power line that this tree took out.
Our apartment building is right behind this tree...we're lucky it fell the way it did and not into the apartments.

Its amazing that a storm could span such a large amount of space. Your report on the storm you had sounds just like the one here. Dustin and I were amazed at all the damage to trees and fences as we drove to church today. Maybe a 1/3 of the ward were without power when we got to church. Dustin and I didn't seem to notice much of a storm last night, so either we were so exhausted we slept like logs, or our little corner in pville just didn't get hit so bad.

Either one is possible.
