Happy Birthday, Emma!

Wow.  How in the world did this...
turn into this?!?
My sweet little baby is 1 today, and I go back and forth between being happy and sad about it.  It's always fun to see her accomplish new things, but with each new thing, I lose my baby a little more.  Emma is such a sweetheart.  She has been so fun and a wonderful blessing in our family.

Here's a little bit about Emma these days:
-Starting to walk on her own
-loves to clap for herself
-can sign "more"
-loves people.  She'll pretty much go to anyone and is not stranger shy, though she does have her favorites.
-loves to cuddle.  She'll randomly come up to me or others and just lay her head on us.  Soooo sweet!!
-wants to be outside, even though it's a little cold these days.  If we find a good day to go for a walk, she's in heaven.  She has a habit of straightening her right leg and pointing her right big toe while in her stroller.  Pretty funny.
-loves her bath.
-loves Molly a lot!  She gets such a kick out of her big sister.
-still not the biggest eater.  Now that we've trained her to sleep through the night (yeah, that took us a while...) she does a little better eating during the day, but she's fairly particular.
-quite content with playing on her own.  Though, we do have to keep an eye on her, she's into everything!

We had a pretty low key day today.  Once Daddy got home, we Skyped with Grammy and Grampy in CA while Emma opened a couple of presents, ate dinner, then Grandma and Grandpa came to open the rest of the presents with Emma, and join us for cake and ice cream.
Here is Emma's cake.  I thought it turned out pretty cute.  It's becoming tradition to do these types of cakes for birthdays, and I have a lot of fun doing it.  Enough work to make me feel like I'm doing something special, but doesn't require too much creativity on my part.  I'm lucky that my parent's library has a bunch of Wilton cake pans at their library that we can just check out.

Here are some more pictures of our adorable birthday girl:

Emma and her Grandpa.  (He's one of her favorite people)
Emma and Grandma.  (Also a favorite)

The last thing we did was eat the cake.  When Molly had her first birthday, she would have nothing to do with the cake, and when I finally got a bite in her mouth, she spit it out.  So needless to say, I was curious to see how Emma would react.  And she did not disappoint!  It was so fun to see her her get a little bit of cake in her mouth, then pick up the entire piece and shovel it in.

And yes, she's found her nose.  This is actually quite common for her these days...sigh.
