Meeting Cousin Abigail

My beautiful sister Katie and her husband had their first baby late last night.  We had the chance to go see them at the hospital and meet baby Abigail.  She is such a sweet little girl, and my girls were smitten with her instantly.  We are excited to have a cousin that lives near us!!

Molly was so tender with Abby, it was adorable.

The three cousins on the Yourstone side.

Emma was waving and saying "Hi Abby!"

So excited and ready to hold the baby.

Emma reaching for Abby.  She started saying "more Abby, more Abby." Cutest thing ever.

One down...

On Oct. 5th, Molly lost her first tooth.  Let's just summarize by saying it was a stressful couple of days while it was on its way out.  Molly wouldn't let me come near her, would actually run away if I came close whether I was wanting to check the tooth or not, and constantly complained of it hurting.  The message "it will stop hurting once it comes out!!!" was not received well.  Finally, in the morning before school, after tears during breakfast, I said "Molly, that's it, I'm taking it out." One little tug and it was out, much to everyone's relief.

How many more of these do we have to do, again?

The tooth fairy left $1 and a sweet little note.  Wasn't that nice of her?

Thank you, Emma!

We have called Emma "the Emma-nator" (as in terminator) for some time now, because she loves to get into mischief.  Most moms might think her antics aren't all too bad, but when we're used to Molly who never really got into anything, it seems like a lot.  She is always on the go, barely has time for books or a movie, and is beyond curious.

On Monday, while I was in the shower, she got into my purse and somehow opened one of my Bath and Body Works lip glosses.  If you've never used one, they are incredibly sticky.  She had it all over her face, hands, the wall in a few places, and put a huge spot on our couch, that for the life of me I could not get out.  Our couch has been bugging me lately anyway as it is practically falling apart and one of the cushions is flat, and that pretty much just sent me over the edge.

So, I hit Craigslist.  I don't feel like I usually find the best of things, or it takes me days of looking for one item to find something worthwhile (it took over 2 months to find our piano) but I guess when you're cheap and picky, you get what you pay for.  I somehow hit the jackpot this time. Within 3 minutes I saw exactly what I wanted.

Behold, our new couches: (in use while the girls watched a movie.)

Yes, they are big, and no, they don't really fit in our space.  But they are practically brand new, in excellent condition, bought for amazingly cheap, and above all, super comfortable.  So I guess we should thank you, Emma, for our newest additions.

Official kindergarten pic

Molly received her Kindergarten pictures the other day.  Still can't believe she's old enough to be in school, but I guess the evidence is in the picture.  She's so grown up...and adorable.

Molly starts Kindergarten

It seems like a lot of the mothers I know and am friends with have kids starting kindergarten this fall.  I can't believe we all have kids that old...or that I'm old enough to have a kid that old!  Molly has been looking forward to this day all summer long.

Showing off the backpack.
Cute sisters!
Molly's teacher is Mrs. Kenyon.  We went to her school last week for what they call Kindergarten Glimpses, where we dropped her school supplies off and met her teacher, and got comfortable with her classroom.  I think being able to see everything and meet her teacher made it all real for Molly, and helped her get excited and not nervous.

Today I was taking a class of my own for Cosmetology ConEd, so my Mom came up to help me with keeping an eye on Emma and picking Molly up from school.  We all walked to school together, and Molly was practically running she was so excited.  As she was heading in the doors, she gave me a big thumbs up.  I'm so proud of what a big girl she is.

Molly had a great first day.  She made friends with another Molly in her class, and her favorite things were rest time (because they got to lay down on their towels and read books) and recess.  I was sad I wasn't able to be there to pick her up on her very first day of school, but I'm so happy my Mom is close by that she could fill in for me.

Big Creek

A few weeks ago we met up with some neighbors at Big Creek.  It's a big lake and a decent size beach.  I'm surprised we don't go there more often.  It's only about 20-25 minutes away, and both girls had a blast.

Whenever Emma sees me get the camera out, she puts on this cheesy little grin and squints her eyes.  How can you not think that's adorable?

Emma and her little friend Audra, who is about 1 and 1/2 months older than Emma.

Audra's big sister Ava is one of Molly's best friends right now.  They act pretty much like sisters whenever they get together.  (Ignore the random yellow floaty going by...)

The two youngest girls with the addition of Benjamin.  Emma adored Benjamin, and I think the feeling was pretty mutual.  He and his family moved a few weeks ago, and we miss them!!

Almost all of the kids between the three families.  I think we're missing one boy in the picture.

There he is. :)

LOVE my girls!

Spirit Lake

My Mom rented a cabin at Spirit Lake the weekend before Father's Day as a gift for my Dad.  We missed not having my brother Scott there with us, but everyone else was there.  It was fun to get together and enjoy some sun and water.

If you walked down the hill from our cabin, it led out onto a dock.  We had fun gathering there, doing some fishing, watching the boaters, and just hanging out.  Attached to the dock was one of those floating docks.  Molly had a blast climbing from dock to dock and putting her feet in the water.

One of the fish caught was big enough that Emma could fit her whole hand down the mouth.  I'm not sure who came up with that idea...
We headed to one of the only beaches that was around the lake.  It was pretty rocky, but the girls still seemed to have fun.

Later that afternoon Molly, David, and I took a canoe out around the lake for a bit.  That was a lot of fun for all of us.  The wind was strong and there were so many boaters that the water was pretty rough, but it made for some good laughs.
Isn't that sunset beautiful?
I think we all had so much fun on that trip that we've already planned another one for next summer at a different lake.  Do I see a family tradition in the making?
